1.33 lakh energy saving lamps for 3 districts of Barisal division
West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCO), a subsidiary of Power Development Board in southern region, will distribute 1,33,000 energy saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) among 30,000 clients for free in three districts of Barisal division.
Barisal WZPDCO sources said the company will start distributing energy saving lamps in Barisal, Jhalakathi and Pirojpur districts from February 2010.
Company sources said compact fluorescent lamp is designed to replace incandescent lamp and can fit most existing light fixtures formerly used for incandescent.
Abul Hossain, executive engineer of Barisal WZPDCO, said a CFL can save over Tk 1899.50 in electricity cost over the lamp's lifetime compared to an incandescent lamp.
“If the energy saving lamps occupy all the households in line with the 80 percent energy saving parameter, it can save huge power.” he said.
A client consuming less than 100 watts electricity will get one free CFL, above 200 watts 2 free CFL and more than 200 watts 3 free CFL under the current programme.
Preparation for distributing free CFL including training of the staff, enlistment of the clients will be completed within this month, the company official said.
Eighteen camps with 90 booths under distribution division-1 to distribute 50,704 CFL, 19 camps with 95 booths under distribution division-2 to distribute 54,000 CFL in Barisal city and district, 6 camps with 27 booths under distribution division-3 to distribute 29,000 CFL in Jhalakati and Pirojpur districts will be opened for distribution of the free CFL, WZPDCO sources said.
