Jasimuddin’s 107th birth anniversary celebrated in Faridpur

The 107th birth anniversary of Polli Kobi Jasimuddin was observed on January 1 at the poet's home at Ambikapur in Faridpur district.
On the occasion, different organisations including Faridpur district administration, Jasim Foundation, district Shilpakala Academy and Faridpur Sahitya Parishad chalked out elaborate programs.
The day began with placing wreaths at the poet's grave. Prayers were offered, a discussion was held and music and poetry recitation were presented at the premises of Jasimuddin's house at Ambikapur.
Among others, educationist Kazi Zainul Abedin; Professor Md. Shahjahan; Jasimuddin's son Dr. Jamal Anwar; Md Anisur Rahman, ASP, Faridpur; district cultural officer Md. Alauddin and Faridpur Sahitya O Sangskriti Unnayan Sangstha secretary Abu Sufian Chowdhury Kushal spoke at the discussion.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed chaired the function.
On the occasion of the poet's birth anniversary, a two weeklong fair was opened yesterday.
Handicrafts, everyday items used by the rural folk and literary works of Jasimuddin are on display at the fair.
Other attractions include puppet show, circus, jatra, live performances of jari, shari and bhawaiya songs, dance and recitation.
Two hundred and seven stalls have been set up at the premises of the poet's home by the river Kumar.
