62nd anniversary of BCL today
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, will celebrate its 62nd founding anniversary today.
On this day in 1948, the BCL was formed under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, then a young and promising student leader and a student at the law department of Dhaka University.
Since the inception, BCL contributed a great to the Language Movement in 1952, Mass Upsurge in 1969, War of Liberation in 1971, Anti-Autocrat Movement in 1990 and other movements in the country.
To mark the day, BCL has chalked out different programmes across the country. The programmes will begin by cutting a cake on Dhaka University's Curzon Hall premises at 12:01am.
Leaders will place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi at 9:00am.
Organisation leaders and activists will bring out a colourful procession on Dhaka University campus at 10:00am.
Meanwhile, another student organisation, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) the JSD-BCL will also observe the day as its 62nd founding anniversary amid various programmes.
