Protector turns predator

Chuadanga police finally suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Alim on charge of his alleged attempt to violate a young widow on Saturday.
Police said, Alim has been closed to Chuadanga police line and the incident is being investigated.
According to sources, ASI Alim along with a constable went to the house of one Robiul at Akandbaria in Sadar upazila in Chuadanga at about 3:30pm on Saturday.
Robiul and his wife Sulekha were accused in a drug case.
Both were arrested several days ago and later released.
Alim talked to Robiul's daughter Junia Khatun, 26, a widow, as the couple was not at home. The police officer told Junia that he came to carry out a search as he had information that there were more drugs in the house.
Junia in her statement to the police alleged that ASI Alim made an offensive proposal and threatened to arrest her and implicate in drug case. Then the ASI ordered the constable to buy a packet of cigarettes for him. As the constable went out, Alim clasped Junia in a bid to violate her.
Junia, however, ran away and cried for help.
People from nearby rushed to the spot and found Junia dishevelled and out of breath. Her clothes were also torn off.
People confined Alim to the house and took away his motorbike.
On information, a police team rushed to the spot and rescued the police officer and the constable.
High police officials in Chuadanga visited the spot and talked to the victim and locals at about 8:00 pm. Later, the authorities ordered to suspend ASI Alim and closed him to police line at 9:30 pm, about five hours after the incident.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar police station Asadduzazman told this correspondent that suspension of Alim was a departmental action.
The incident is under investigation, he added.
