Two-day ‘Poush Mela’ at Ramna Botumul
Jatiyo Poush Mela Udjapon Parishad (JPUP), is holding a two-day Poush Mela, at Ramna Botumul from today. This is the 11th such mela by JPUP. The organisation has been holding the mela since 1999.
“'Mela', 'parban' are integral parts of rural Bengal. Due to rapid modernisation and globalisation, people in the city are forgetting their roots'; the fair aims at reminding people of their culture as well as introducing the mela to the new generation,” said Selim Shamsul Huda Chowdhury, programme convenor, ‘Poush Mela 2010’.
“The mela will feature jatra, songs, recitation, theatre, dance performances and more,” added Selim.
Today the mela will be inaugurated by veteran media personality Mustafa Monwar.
The mela will start from 7:15 am and continue till 9:30 pm. Channel i will telecast 'Poush Mela 2010' live from 7:30-9:30 am.
Tomorrow the mela will start at the same time at 7: 15 am. Rtv will air the mela live from 7:30 - 10am. The mela will continue till 9:30pm.
Apart from enjoying cultural programmes, visitors to the mela can try out delicious pithas at the venue.
