Promote green energy: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday called on the technological and engineering institutes to promote green energy at a time when the planet is facing severe environmental crisis.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is one of the major advocates of green energy at the international community, he said, adding that institutes like Buet has an obligation to promote the concept of safe energy to the young minds.
The minister said this as the chief guest after inaugurating the eighth International Conference of Mechanical Engineering (IMCE) that began at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet).
Some of the most meritorious students study at Buet obliging the institute to play a greater role in equipping the students so that they can help the country realise its dreams of a digital Bangladesh, he added.
Nahid said, “These students are the key to having a fully functional computerised society by the fiftieth anniversary of our nation, which we call Vision 2021. Therefore, it is vital that they are properly equipped to face the challenges.”
Speaking as the special guest, State Minister for Science and ICT Yeafesh Osman said some of the most prominent scientific minds from around the world would be taking part in the conference resulting in a pool of great ideas which would help us pave the way for a digital Bangladesh.
Vice Chancellor Dr AMM Safiullah and Pro-VC Dr M Habibur Rahman also spoke while Prof Dipak Kanti Das of Mechanical Engineering department of Buet was present as the chairperson of the three-day event.
More than one hundred research papers, including keynote papers, by noted academicians will be presented in the conference organised by Mechanical Engineering department.
Representatives from the USA, the UK, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Canada, Iran, Singapore and different universities as well as organisations of Bangladesh are participating in the conference.
A three-day exhibition of technological, engineering goods and services is also being held on the Buet campus along with the international conference.
