Masum set for selector role
Former national player Zahid Razzak Masum is all set to replace Naimur Rahman as a national selector.
The cricket operations committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has selected Masum, who played three one-day internationals for Bangladesh in the late 80s, at a meeting yesterday.
"There were a number of names like Jahangir Alam, Shahriar Hossain, Habibul Bashar and Khaled Mashud in discussion but finally we proposed the name of Masum for board approval. Masum is very much in touch with the cricket as a match referee and we believe it will be helpful for him," said BCB's media committee chairman Jalal Yunus, who attended the meeting along with Gazi Ashraf Hossain and Aminul Haque Moni as invitees.
"Bashar and Mashud are still playing and definitely they will be involved in board activities once they bid bye the on field of cricket while the other two players have been detached with cricket for a long time," he added.
The post was vacant after Naimur had parted his association with the national selection panel citing personal engagement though it was learnt that the way BCB has been handling the issue of making the new contract upset the former national skipper.
Masum has little chance to involve in selection procedure with chief selector Rafiqul Alam and Akram Khan for the upcoming tri-nation series as his appointment has to be approved in the board meeting.
