In memoriam
Quite a few people manage to occupy a permanent position in the hearts of the people by virtue of their good deeds. My father Late Md Nabiruzzaman was one of them. His life is an instance of plain-living and high-thinking.
He was only eight when his mother died and twelve when his father breathed his last. In the environs, where he grew up, a young boy was more likely to be carried away by impulses. But to the surprise of everyone, he proved to be a tenacious boy with firmness of purpose. He passed his school final examination with flying colours. He was attracted to literary pursuits from his early days. He took to writing poems and short stories when he was at school. He passed his IA and BA examinations from, Faridpur Rajendra College. Having passed his MA final examination he worked first as an assistant teacher then as Head Maser at Alokdia High School. He joined the Education Department as thana education officer and served several districts of the country in his capacity as sub-divisional education officer, district Inspector of school (DI/S) as District Education Officer(EDO).
He was at the vanguard of the Language Movement in 1952 and ardently espoused the cause of the liberation war in 1971, mobilizing opinion among the officers and staff in his department.
A devout-Muslim, an eminent scholar having extensive knowledge in all branches of language and literature, a seasoned critic and above all a kind-hearted man, he breathed his last on 26 November 1994.
