League moved to Kamalapur
After a one-day break, the Bangladesh League resumes today with all matches being shifted to the Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Stadium in Kamalapur from Bangabandhu National Stadium following renovation work at the country's premium venue.
The league committee yesterday took the decision after the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) had requested football's governing body to vacant the BNS for the renovation works for the 11th South Asian Games.
The BNS will host the opening and closing ceremony along with football and athletics of the regional mega extravaganza, scheduled for January 29-February 9 and there will be no Bangladesh League matches until the completion of the SA Games.
"We had a fruitful discussion with all 13 participating teams of the professional football league and they agreed to play in Kamalapur in the greater interest of football. The meeting also emphasised on security of the venue," said league committee chairman Salam Murshedy emerging from the meeting at the BFF House yesterday.
Asked whether the pitch was ready for the game, Murshedy said that the pitch was used as a practice venue during the SAFF Championship and there was no problem holding the Bangladesh League matches in Kamalapur.
The league resumes today with unbeaten Farashganj Sporting Club taking on visitors Chittagong Mohammedan in Kamalapur at 3:45pm. Beanibazar will host winless Feni Soccer Club at Sylhet Stadium.
