Aamir and Kareena weave a saree

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan seems to be in a mood to surprise people.
After spending a few hours and sharing modest home-cooked food at the humble house of a weaver at a village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh along with Kareena Kapoor, Aamir flew to Kolkata where he reached cricketer Saurav Ganguly's house in disguise to meet the latter only to be turned away by Ganguly's wife.
Aamir and Kareena, who were in Madhya Pradesh for the shoot of a commercial to promote handloom, surprised weaver Hukum Koli and his wife at their brick-and-mud house at Pranpur village in Chanderi district, which is known for the famous Chanderi silk saree, last Monday.
In a symbolic gesture, Aamir and Kareena partly wove a saree with help from the weaver and his wife Kamlesh. The saree would be auctioned and the money generated would be spent for development of the village.
Later, the two actors also shared a meal of luchi and curry made of lau (gourd).
Aamir said that he wants to generate awareness among the youth to make handloom a more integral part of their everyday lives.
Kareena told media persons that it was an NGO that pointed out to Aamir about the plight of weavers and the dying art of Chanderi saree making.
The very next day in the morning, Aamir, wearing a wig and a backpack slung casually, knocked the door at the plush residence of Saurav Ganguly in Behala locality of South Kolkata, in the guise of a cricket fan who wanted to meet the “Prince of Kolkata”.
Speaking in Hindi with a heavy Bengali accent, Aamir asked someone who opened the doors of Saurav's house that he was a fan of “Dada” and wanted to meet him. He was told that the cricketer was away.
However, the same evening the actor returned to Saurav's house, this time accompanied by his wife Kiran Rao and the disguise was off. He was heartily welcomed by Saurav and his wife Dona.
After exchanging pleasantries with the cricketer's mother and giving a pat to Saurav's daughter, Aamir was taken on a guided tour of the exquisitely decorated abode before having dinner with the Ganguly family.
Before signing off, Aamir presented a ring of gold to Saurav.
Last week, Aamir had gone incognito to the temple town of Varanasi and mingled with common people who failed to see through his disguise and ascertain his real identity.
Why did Aamir undertake these visits in such a manner? Bollywood trade analysts, this was Aamir's innovative manner of promoting his latest film “3 Idiots” directed by Raj Kumar Hirani.
