Victory Day hockey
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) made a winning start in the Victory Day Hockey Competition when they handed a 3-1 defeat to Bangladesh Air Force on the opening day at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Jamil Bin Talib struck twice while Hasan Jubair netted one for winners. Zahidul Islam netted the consolation goal for the losers.
The organisers, however, saw Sonali Bank give a walkover against Bangladesh Police, leaving the meet to a five-team competition.
Mashirul Kabir Ritu, joint secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, said that Sonali Bank withdrew their name because they were not permitted to play those national players, who were a part of them in the last season. He informed that some 19 national players have not been permitted to play for any club because of their commitment in the upcoming SA Games.
