'Allocate more fund for education'
Campaign for Good Governance at a view exchange meeting yesterday called on the government to allocate more money for education sector as well as for strong monitoring to ensure quality education.
The meeting titled 'National budget monitoring: Girls' education still remains as a challenge' was organised at the National Press Club in the city.
The organisation also presented the findings of their monitoring which took place in 12 districts. The monitoring found that in most of the cases, there is no annual budget for a school other than the money allocated for stipends of the students.
There are also allegations of irregularities in disbursing the money, as the process is neither strictly monitored nor transparent, speakers said at the meeting.
Mohammad Shah Alam and Advocate Biren Shikder, members of the parliamentary standing committee on education, Mohammad Shahidullah of Campaign for Good Governance, Dr Shourav Shikder of Dhaka University, Khawaza Mainuddin of The New Age also spoke.
