Begum Rokeya Day observed
Different women rights and social organisations yesterday observed Begum Rokeya Day with a call for social movement to stop all sorts of violence against women.
Bangladesh Nari Mukti Andolon organised a discussion to mark both the 129th birth and 77th death anniversaries of Begum Rokeya.
Speakers at the discussion said it will not possible to stop violence against women without ensuring their education.
Biplobi Nari Sanghati organised a rally in front of the National Museum and urged all to unite against criminals who are responsible for repression on women.
Independent Children and Women Workers Forum organised a discussion and recalled Begum Rokeya's contribution to the women's empowerment and education.
To mark the day, Karmojibi Nari formed a human chain and took out a procession. It demanded implementation of the National Women Development Policy 1997.
DemocracyWatch and Narigrantha Prabartana also formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club, calling for making women aware of climate change impacts.
