Asian markets mixed
Asian markets were mixed Friday as investors took profits after recent gains, following a decline on Wall Street ahead of the release of a key jobs report amid worries over the US economy.
Tokyo ended 0.45 percent higher with investor confidence buoyed by the government's recent efforts to bolster the economy, as a weaker yen gave some comfort to exporters hit by the unit's recent strength against the dollar.
TOKYO: Up 0.45 percent. The benchmark Nikkei-225 index gained 44.92 points to 10,022.0 by the close, ending above 10,000 for the first time in five weeks.
HONG KONG: Down 0.25 percent. The Hang Seng Index fell 55.72 points to 22,498.15.
SHANGHAI: Up 1.61 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was up 52.42 points at 3,317.04.
SEOUL: Up 0.60 percent. The KOSPI gained 9.76 points at 1,624.76.
TAIPEI: Down 0.44 percent. The weighted index fell 33.76 points to 7,650.91.
SINGAPORE: Down 0.61 percent. The Straits Times Index dropped 17.17 points to 2,791.01.
BANGKOK: Down 0.74 percent. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index fell 5.26 points to close at 701.58.
KUALA LUMPUR: Down 0.17 percent. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index lost 2.15 points to 1,270.20.
JAKARTA: Up 0.46 percent. The Jakarta Composite Index gained 11.51 points to 2,511.54.
MANILA: Down 0.94 percent. The composite index lost
MUMBAI: Down 0.49 percent. The 30-share Sensex index closed down 84.14 points at 17,101.54.
