MSC allege wrong treatment for Tamim
Mohammedan cricket officials on Friday brought a serious allegation against national team physiotherapist Michael Henry as they claimed that left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal got wrong treatment after he had suffered injury on the top of his hand during last one-day match against Zimbabwe at Chittagong last month.
The Mohammedan officials came down heavily on Henry after the board expressed their disappointment over the participation of Tamim Iqbal in the Premier Division League match against Abahani at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
"As per our team physio report Tamim have received wrong treatment as the MRI was done after eighteen days though it was required to be done within three days. He was also advised on a wrong exercise which simply has prolonged his injury. He may have recovered from the injury much earlier if he had the right treatment," said Lutfur Rahman Badal, Mohammedan's cricket committee chairman.
"We got a letter on Thursday from the cricket operations committee where it's said that Tamim is yet to be fit and ask for our consideration in the national interest. You, know for some other players like Shakib (Al Hasan) have had the same advice but they played the match. It was a crucial game for us and that's why we fielded Tamim and there was nothing wrong," he added.
BCB's senior vice-president Mahbubul Anam, who is also a Mohammedan official, criticised the ambiguous letter issued by the cricket operations committee and he also terms it a 'love letter'.
"You have to say it a straight way and there is no scope to issue something like a love letter," said the bearded organiser while talking with the reporters after the match.
Henry was not ready to make any comment on the issue but cricket operations committee chairman Enayet Hossain Siraj defended their position by saying that everybody has to careful about the national interest.
"I am not a physician but as per physio report Tamim is not match fit and there was nothing wrong in his treatment. Actually he has to take enough rest for recovery. I think Tamim should not have played the match. Players should understand their position because any simple mistake can jeopardise their career. It was his (Tamim) fault as he played the match despite being unfit," said Siraj.
"I don't know whether it was a love letter or something like that but what I can say that we always show respect to the club because we have all faith on them. There is nothing wrong if we request them not to field an injured player," he added.
