7 women honoured
Seven women were awarded 'Anlene-Prothom Alo Nari Shakti Shammanana' (women of strength) Award for their outstanding achievements in various fields, says a press release.
New Zealand Dairy Products Bd Limited and the Prothom Alo jointly organised the award giving ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Saturday.
The award winners are Nishat Mojumder Nishu -- the first Bangladeshi woman to conquer the highest peak on Shingachuli Mountain; actress Kazi Rozy -- she has been valiantly fighting the onslaught of cancer; Dr Lydie Haque -- her willpower and belief has provided considerable progress as she worked with her autistic child. She has also provided hope and strength to mothers of other autistic children; Haowa Begum -- she is fighting acute poverty to push forward her meritorious child to pursue a seemingly unattainable dream; Salma Khatun -- Bangladesh's first female train operator; Dolly Akhter -- she has been an ambassador for the social welfare of children not only in Bangladesh but also for the children worldwide through Unicef.
Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and Managing Director of New Zealand Dairy Products Limited SA Mallick spoke at the ceremony.
Former advisers to the caretaker government Rokia Afzal Rahman, Sultana Kamal and Rasheda K Chowdhury, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation Shaheen Anam, cultural personality Sara Zaker, Sarah Begum Kabari MP and Managing Director of Berger Paints Rupali Chowdhury gave away the awards to the winners.
