Young tigers whitewash Zimbabwe
Bangladesh Under-19 completed a 5-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe Under- 19 with a thumping 121-run victory in the fifth and final one-dayer at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra yesterday.
This was the most comprehensive victory of the series and bodes well for the young tigers ahead of the upcoming World Cup. They have also beaten their English counterparts 5-2 in a 7-match series last month.
Yesterday's match at Bogra was a one-sided affair as the home sides openers put on a splendid display with the bat. Anamul Haque and Amit Majumdar, who had a lean patch so far with the bat, found form at just the right time as both got hundreds under their belt. The two put on 231 runs in the first wicket before being separated in the 45th over. Anamul's patient knock of 106 came off 146 deliveries while Amit was the aggressor striking 15 fours and three sixes in his 133-ball knock of 129.
Ultimately Bangladesh ended with 270 on the board in 50 overs losing the two openers only.
Zimbabwe made a promising start with the two openers Chirimuuta and Scott racing to 60 in the tenth over. Scott's (25) run-out thwarted their chase a bit. Then leg-break bowler Sabbir Rahman came into the attack and dismissed Chirimuuta for 40.
Zimbabwe's most consistent batsman in the series Mazhawidza for once fell cheaply. Sabbir then took three more wickets to stifle the Zimbabwe run chase and skittle them for 149 in 34.4 overs to hand them a heavy defeat.
