Under-19s lose again
Having already wrapped up the seven-match series winning the first four games, the Bangladesh Under-19 cricketers now lost two in a row as they went down to their English counterparts by three wickets in a close encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Gaining in confidence after their first win of the tour, England skipper Azeem Rafiq sent the hosts in to bat. Opener Anamul Haq held things up at one end, but saw wickets tumble at the other as the hosts were reduced to 66 for four in 21 overs.
Anamul had a 92-run sixth wicket partnership with Shabbir Rahman who scored 53 runs off 57 deliveries that seemed to lift the Bangladesh's innings. But soon after the two fell quickly and the next two falling victims of unnecessary run-outs, the innings crawled to 224 for 9 at the end of 50 overs.
Haggert proved the wrecker-in-chief as he took three crucial wickets conceding 21 runs in 7 overs.
The English too had a good start as they put on 52 runs for the first wicket maintaining a run-rate of over 4. Both the openers, who have been in good form, contributed with useful runs. But it was the 63-run innings from Ateeq Javed in the middle that ensured English youths got home with 3 wickets in hand and 8 balls to spare.
Bangladesh skipper, after falling for a second-ball duck, bowled an excellent spell of 10 overs taking three wickets and conceding only 33 runs. But he found little support from the others to change the course of the game.
