BNP council on Dec 8

The long-expected national council of main opposition BNP will be held on December 8 after 16 years.
This decision was taken at the standing committee meeting of the party at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office last night with Khaleda Zia in the chair.
BNP Joint Secretary General Nazrul Islam Khan told this to newsmen after the meeting.
A council preparation committee led by party Chairperson Khaleda Zia and required numbers of sub-committees were formed to make the council a success.
Besides, a three-member election steering committee led by party leader TH Khan was formed at the meeting.
The highest policy-making body of the party directed the district level committees to form full-fledged grassroots level committees, including district level committees, by November 25.
Party Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, members of the standing committee Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Khandaker Mahbubuddin Ahmad, M Shamsul Islam and Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, among others, were present.
As part of its council preparation, BNP has already sought proposals from the party men to bring amendment to its constitution. They were asked to submit their written proposals by October 31.
As per a provision of a new bill placed in parliament, BNP will have to submit its ratified constitution to the Election Commission (EC) by January 24 of the next year to retain its registration with the EC.
Khaleda Zia said the party council will approve the constitution after completing the reorganising process of the party across the country.
Earlier the party chairperson announced a roadmap for the reorganisation of party to hold the national council by December.
After her announcement the reorganisation process began on June 9 through the declaration of the district convening committees which are now working to revamp the party from grassroots level.
