Contempt petition against Khoka
A contempt of court petition was filed with the High Court (HC) yesterday against Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka on charge of violating a HC judgment regarding cattle market during Eid-ul-Azha.
The court in its judgement directed the DCC on June 29 not to allow any cattle market on open places or streets in Dhaka before Eid-ul-Azha and to take steps for disposal of the remains of sacrificial animals within 24 hours after they are slaughtered.
The HC also asked the mayor to submit a report on implementation of the court's directives by October 11 this year.
As the mayor did not submit any report by October 11 to the HC, Advocate Asaduzzaman Siddiqui on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a human rights organisation, filed the contempt of court petition against Khoka.
The hearing of the petition will be held today.
