Workshop owner killed, youth beaten to death
The owner of an engineering workshop was stabbed to death at his house allegedly by his employee, and in another incident a youth was beaten to death in the city yesterday.
Abdus Sattar, 40, the owner of 'Power Engineering Corporation' at Bhajahari Saha Street was stabbed to death at his house at Tipu Sultan Road in the old part of the city.
Sattar's relative Redwan, a student of Jagannath University who stays with him at his house, told the police that one of his employees came to the house at about 9:00am and was locked into an altercation with Sattar.
At one stage, the employee stabbed Sattar indiscriminately with a sharp weapon and fled, leaving him injured critically.
Redwan, who was in the adjacent room at that time, rushed injured Sattar to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Redwan, however, claimed that he does not know the name of the attacker, as he is a new employee, said Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station.
In the other incident, Mohammad Ripon, 30, was beaten to death by Sohel and Mahbub, two brothers, during a row over a pigeon at Bangladesh Math at Aga Sadeq Road in the old part of the city.
Bangshal police said the two brothers hit Ripon in the head with iron rods during the row in the morning.
Police detained Mahbub, but Sohel went into hiding, the police said.
