Shakib revels in 'honour'
After being named in the International Cricket Council's World Test Team of the Year, Shakib Al Hasan termed the award a tremendous honour for him.
"It is a tremendous honour for me to be part of a very select group which has some of the living legends of world cricket," was quoted by tigercricket.com as saying.
Shakib, who had a stellar year in Test and ODIs with the bat and ball, is the lone spinner in the World Test Team, which was announced at the LG-ICC Awards celebration in Johannesburg on Thursday.
“I believe my bowling performance was a key factor in getting selected and being the only specialist spinner in the team makes it even more significant as there were bowlers of the caliber of Muttiah Muralidaran, Daniel Vettori and Harbhajan Singh playing too during the period,” said the world's number one ranked all-rounder.
Shakib also felt his selection was a positive statement for Bangladesh as a Test side: “Our Test performance has been going up collectively over the last couple of years and we have pushed good sides real close on a number of occasions. My inclusion in the World Test Team means that cricket experts now recognize that we are capable of world class feats.”
Since August 2008 Sakib had played eight Tests and scored 498 runs at 35.57 and picked up 45 wickets with five five-wicket hauls which is the highest by an international bowler in the season.
