Govt to invite regional investors to boost tourism
The government will invite investors from the regional nations to develop the country's tourism industry, said the civil aviation and tourism minister yesterday.
“We see tourism as an important tool for enhancing economy of the country, as the sector has a huge potential to earn foreign currency and generate more employment,” said GM Quader.
“We need regional cooperation to develop tourism industry in the South Asian countries, and we can make a joint plan so tourists from Europe and the US can visit the region under a single package,” he said.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair 2009 organised by Tour Operators' Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.
The fair will remain open from 10am to 8pm with an entry fee of Tk 20 per person.
A total of 85 participants from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Myanmar are taking part in the show.
