JS body for stern action against staffs responsible

A parliamentary committee yesterday asked the fisheries and livestock ministry to take stern action against those who are responsible for the sorry state of Dhaka Zoo for which a number of animals died in the recent days.
The parliamentary body on fisheries and livestock ministry also formed a seven-member committee to modernise the zoo and makes it more attractive.
Headed by a professor of Zoology department of Dhaka University, the committee has also been assigned to improve the national zoo.
“The committee is much disappointed for the inefficiency and irresponsibility of the zoo officials for which several animals died. We have asked the concerned ministry to take tough action against those responsible persons,” ABM Ashrafuddin Nizan, chairman of the committee, told The Daily Star after the meeting.
The meeting further discussed in detail about appointment of skilled officials to infuse dynamism in the zoo administration, audit of income and expenditure of the zoo, taking steps for making it attractive, eviction of illegal establishments inside it, renovation and repair of sheds of animals and birds,” Nizan, also a BNP lawmaker, added.
“We have also discussed ways to attain the goal of turning the Dhaka Zoo into a digital zoo,” he further said.
Standing committee members Fisheries and Livestock Minister M Abdul Latif Biswas, M Mokbul Hossain and Manjur Quader Qoraishi were also present at the meeting.
