Life in a living hell
They feel the heat every moment, six days a week in this re-rolling mill. Gamchha (towel), and hand-made gloves are the only protective gears they have. And to protect the body from the extreme heat they wear sweaters or thick clothing they can manage. The heat causes them to suffer jaundice and diarrhoea. An ordinary fan, inset, can barely cool. The workers' shifts are only two and a half hours long, fetching Tk 80-90, as they cannot work more than that at a stretch. Photo:Anisur Rahman
