ADB okays re-tender proposal
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has endorsed a proposal of Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) for re-tendering to install gas compressors at three points in GTCL system to boost the gas pressure level to feed the gas driven installations in a proper manner.
"The installation of gas compressors project is funded by ADB. It has endorsed the proposal and we asked GTCL to go ahead with the project," acting chairman of Petrobangla Muktadir Ali told BSS yesterday.
The compressor stations over GTCL system would be installed at Ashuganj and Elenga to increase gas flow of 50-60 mmcfd, Muktadir said. Two compressors would be installed at Ashuganj and one at Elenga, he said.
Petrobangla sources said to ease the gas pressure problem at Ghorashal, Ashuganj and Joydevpur, local and international consultants suggested that Petrobangla install gas compressors at some points of GTCL's system.
"The low pressure in the system created serious problem for the power plants and industries as they were getting gas without adequate pressure, which does not make any sense although they are paying huge bills against their consumption. They will get rid of this situation after installation of the compressors," the Petrobangla chairman said.
Petrobangla is now producing 2000 mmcf gas per day against the demand of 2100 to 2200 mmcfd.
