Youth held for giving death threat to minister
Detective Branch (DB) of police yesterday arrested a youth in Dinajpur on charges of giving death threat to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader.
The arrestee, Sajedur Rahman, 19, was picked up from his Dinajpur residence.
Assistant Commissioner of DB Sanowar Hossain told The Daily Star that Sajedur, a student of Pirganj College in Thakurgaon, had been brought to Dhaka yesterday evening. He is now in DB custody for interrogation.
Quoting Sajedur, the DB official said that Sajedur and one of his friends gave death threats to several people, including GM Quader, via short message service (SMS).
However, they did it only for fun and were not aware that one of the phone numbers belongs to the minister.
On August 25, GM Quader, also a Jatiya Party presidium member, received an SMS which read, "Time and tide wait for none. But someone is waiting for you. Do you know who he is? He is the Death. He would come and take your life. So, be careful. This is the time."
