3 killed on barren city roads
At least three people were killed and 22 others injured in three separate road accidents in and on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.
The deceased were Nafisa, 3, daughter of Mohammad Milon of Mirpur-11, Mohammad Sohel, 18, a bus helper, and Mizanur Rahman, 25, student of a private university.
Sources said Nafisa and 13 others sustained injuries when their microbus heading for Munshiganj from Mirpur collided head-on with a bus from opposite direction on Dhaleswari Bridge-1 at south Keraniganj around 2:00pm. They were going to join a bridal party at Louhajang.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where Nafisa succumbed to her injury around 4:00pm.
Bus helper Sohel died on the spot and six passengers were injured as their bus overturned when it hit the road divider at Mirpur-1 around 1:00pm.
Officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station said the accident occurred as helper Sohel was driving. The injured were rushed to local hospital and clinics, he added.
In another incident near Salehpur Bridge at Amin Bazar in Savar, university student Mizanur Rahman and three others sustained injuries as a bus rammed their car around 2:00am.
The injured were taken to DMCH where Mizanur succumbed to his injury around 3:00am.
Savar police seized the bus while the driver managed to escape.
