Robbery bid foiled
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-2) yesterday foiled an attempt of committing robbery by a gang of criminals at Mohammadpur in the city injuring two gang members in a shootout.
The injured Mohammad Monir Hossain, 22, son of Mohammad Younus of Nabinagar Housing, and Mohammad Raju Ahmed, 23, son of late Abdul Rakib of Beribadh area, were admitted to Pangu Hospital with bullet injuries in their legs and hands.
Captain Abu Khaled Al Mamun, assistant director of Rab-2, said they had information that the gang was taking preparation for committing a robbery in the area and to foil the attempt a Rab patrol team in plain clothes reached Dhaka Udyan to nab them.
Sensing their presence, the miscreants all on a sudden swooped on the Rab personnel with lethal weapons prompting them to retaliate with bullets.
The Rab team fired 10 shots leaving two criminals lying on the spot with bullet injuries while their other accomplices managed to escape the scene.
Rab sources said they also recovered two knives from the spot.
Captain Mamun said the criminals used to snatch belongings from pedestrians but taking the chance of Eid vacation they were taking preparations to commit a robbery in a locked house in the area.
