World Car-free Day tomorrow
Paribesh Banchao Andolon (PBA), Citizens Rights Movement and Nirapad Development Foundation will observe the World Car-free Day-2009 tomorrow.
The organisations will jointly hold a rally in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, marking the day.
PBA Chairman Abu Naser Khan announced the programme at a press conference at the PBA Hall Room yesterday.
Naser said the Car-free Day was observed worldwide on September 22. “But due to the Eid holiday we are observing the day here on September 26.”
He said nowadays the city roads of the country witnesses regular traffic jams due to “excess of private cars.”
The PBA chairman demanded proper control on plying of private cars in the city roads, introducing and ensuring comfortable public transportation system and imposing higher rate of import duty on cars.
