'Qualitative higher edn a must for prosperous Bangladesh'

Speakers at seminar here underscored the need for quality improvement in higher education system in the country for creating competent human resources for a prosperous Bangladesh.
They said there is no alternative to the qualitative and quantitative education for transforming the huge population into skilled human resources to take the nation towards the cherished goal of success in every spheres of life.
To attain the goal, they favored for standard educational institutions equipped with modern learning tools side by side with maintaining quality education.
They were addressing the seminar styled 'Higher educational problems and prospect in Rajshahi city' organised by Shah Mukhdum International University (SMIU) at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday.
Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the seminar as the chief guest while Fazley Hossain Badsha MP, and Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder MP, as the special guests with Dean of Arts Faculty of SMIU Prof Wazed Ali in the chair. Rajshahi University Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Muhammad Nurullah, Syndicate member Dr Syed Shafiqul Alam and Prof PM Shafiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Liton said, Rajshahi city has been adjudged as the city of education but it is lagging behind in the field of quality institutions and educational scopes due to multifarious reasons.
He said necessary process is being progressed to establish two more universities especially medical and agricultural here. He blamed that the private universities have been doing business in the name of education expansion and stressed the need for a close monitoring and supervision in this regard so that their functions could be transparent and accountable.
In his keynote speech, SMIU VC Prof Abdul Khaleque said, development of a nation is dependent on its higher educated people. He said emphasis should be given on arranging infrastructural development and other requisite facilities for wide-ranging expansion of higher education in the country.
