PM seeks help from Germany for solar power
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday sought cooperation of the German government in coal mining and introducing solar-energy system on a massive scale in Bangladesh.
She made the request when new German Ambassador in Dhaka Holger Michael paid a courtesy call on her at the PM's office.
The envoy assured the premier of providing all necessary assistance for implementing development projects of the government.
The PM welcomed the German ambassador to Bangladesh and assured him support in discharging his duties.
The envoy highly praised the leadership of Hasina, saying that her "wise and visionary" headship will take Bangladesh onto the cherished plane of development and prosperity.
"Germany and Bangladesh have similar history of rebuilding country after war," Michael was quoted as saying during the meeting.
She told the German envoy that, for the first time in the country's history, all the standing committees of the Jatiya Sangsad have been formed in the first session and chairmen of seven committees selected from the opposition side.
The premier thanked the German government and all other European countries for extending their support in restoring democracy in Bangladesh through holding a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election last year.
The PM and the German ambassador also discussed bilateral trade and investment, climate change challenges and various other issues related to national, regional and international development.
On climate change, the ambassador highly praised the speech of Hasina in the World Climate Conference-3, Geneva.
