Woman doc arrested in Chandpur
The police arrested a woman doctor from her residence at Professor Para in Chandpur town early yesterday in connection with a case filed following the death of a patient due to alleged wrong treatment.
The police arrested Dr Shima Ahsan, the main accused in the case, during a raid on her house, but her husband Dr Ahsanullah, another accused in the case, managed to escape.
The police produced Dr Shima before the court of chief judicial magistrate who sent her to jail hajat.
Shirotaj Begum, 20, of Hajiganj upazila with complaint of appendicitis was admitted to a private clinic, owned by Dr Shima and her husband, where she was operated upon on August 20.
She was again admitted to General Hospital on September 14 as her condition deteriorated following the operation. She died on the day.
Lokman Hossain Hawlader, father of Shirotaj Begum, filed a case with the court of chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday accusing Dr Shima, her husband and another surgeon of wrong treatment that resulted in the death of his young daughter.
Two other accused in the case -- Dr Ahsanullah and another surgeon -- could not be arrested as of yesterday.
