The government will revive the National Women Development Policy 1997, which was formulated by the previous Awami League (AL) government, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury told the House yesterday.
While replying to a query of AL lawmaker Junaid Ahmed Palak, the state minister said the previous government of Sheikh Hasina formulated the national women policy after holding a series of dialogues and discussions, but the BNP government cancelled it.
Replying to lawmakers' queries, the state minister also described various measures taken by the government for the welfare of women and children.
In reply to a query of Jatiya Party lawmaker Mahjabin Morshed, the state minister said the government has planned to construct women hostels at the district headquarters in phases.
"The women hostels will be built on availability of fund and need," she said.
On eliminating repression on women and children, Shirin said the government has revitalised its network across the country to prevent women and child repression.
