3 bullet-hit in attack on Khasia family
Three members of an indigenous family sustained injuries after armed miscreants attacked their house in the early hours yesterday at a remote Khasia habitat called Khasia Punji in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.
The house owner's son-in-law sustained a bullet wound injury on his leg during the attack.
The gang fired more gunshots before fleeing the scene when other villagers rushed to the house to help.
A complaint was lodged with Gowainghat police in this connection.
The officer-in-charge of Gowainghat police station said the gang was not able to force into the house during the attack. A police team later visited the house, he said.
Sources said, a gang of about 10 to 12 miscreants surrounded the Ram Ranong's house at Nokshiapunji, a Khasia cluster at about 1:30 in the morning.
Ram Ranong raised a hue and cry when he realised his house was surrounded and the gang swooped on him. At one stage of the struggle that followed, they hit him with a sharp weapon. When Ram's daughter Alisha Kongla and son-in-law Ranesh Lamba came out to rescue him, they shot with their pistols.
Ranesh sustained bullet wounds on his leg. He was treated at the upazila health complex.
It appeared to be an attempt for a robbery, locals said.
