Ex-VC, seven others sued for graft
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed seven cases against eight people including former pro-vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof MA Mannan on charge of misappropriating Tk 4 crore in purchase of medical equipments.
ACC deputy directors Nasim Anwar and AKM Zayed Hossain filed the cases with Shahbagh Police Station.
Other accused include Dr ANM Atai Rabbi, ex-chairman of BSMMU surgery department, Dr Kazi Ebadullah, former member secretary of BSMMU purchase committee, Hafizur Rahman, an engineer, Sajjad Hossain, general manager of medical solution department of Siemens Bangladesh Ltd, Jyoti Joyen Uddin, manager of Business (Admin), Siemens Bangladesh Ltd, Matiur Rahman, managing director of Asia Pacific Medical, and Mosaddek Hossain, managing director of United Ltd.
One case was filed for misappropriating Tk 42,71,000, one for Tk 25,20,000, one for Tk 1,22,85,000, one for Tk 11,11,800 and another for Tk 1,79,35,000.
Two more cases were filed against five on charge of misappropriating the money in collusion.
The former pro-VC has been accused in three cases and Atai Rabbi in four cases.
