Shahid commissioner freed from Faridpur jail
Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Commissioner of Saidur Rahman alias Shahid Commissioner of Ward No. 38, who is also a dreaded criminal with a capital punishment awarded by the court, was freed on bail from Faridpur jail last night.
The jail official sources said Shahid Commissioner, a resident of Gandaria in the city, walked out of the jail around 8:30pm.
Sources said a Dhaka Court sentenced him to death on May 29 in 2003 on charge of gunning down advocate Habibur Rahman Mondal at Chandra Mohan Basak Lane at Banogram in old Dhaka on August 20, 2000.
Commissioner Shahid is also accused in the killing of Ward No 90 commissioner Shahadat Hossain Sikder on September 29 in 2003.
Besides, Commissioner Shahid was accused in the killing of Juba Dal leader Sujan in Sutrapur on May 4, 1999.
Fugitive top terrors Kala Jahangir, Dakat Shahid, and Pichchi Hannan, who was killed in Rab crossfire, and a number of listed criminals are his co-accused in various cases.
