Former British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury arrived in Dhaka yesterday on an official visit.
Anwar, director-in-charge of International Organisations at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will call on a range of dignitaries, including the foreign minister, the army chief, lawmakers and heads of UN missions here.
He has sought to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina but his appointment with the premier could not be confirmed yet, said an official at the British High Commission in Dhaka.
Anwar Choudhury is here on an official visit to hold talks on various issues with the dignitaries, the official told The Daily Star preferring anonymity.
He is also scheduled to meet a number of lawmakers and media personalities at a dinner to be hosted by the British High Commissioner this evening, he said.
“We have invited lawmakers from all political parties,” the official added.
He will visit the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Training Operation in Gazipur today.
Anwar will meet Foreign Minister Dipu Moni and Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes on August 5.
He will call on the army chief today to discuss peacekeeping issues.
Anwar served as the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh from 2004 to May 2008.
