Child marriage bid foiled in Joypurhat

A schoolgirl was saved from underage marriage following timely intervention of Joypurhat upazila administration yesterday.
A mobile court led by executive magistrate Munira Sultana also realised Tk 5,000 from Abdur Rahim, father of the 14-year-old girl, as a fine. As the news spread, the groom, Aslam Hossain, 29, son of Sanwar Hossain of Jamalpur, and his relatives did not enter the village where the wedding was organised.
Stalker 'commits suicide' in Khulna after humiliation

A youth on Thursday night committed suicide in his Khulna city residence after being beaten up in public for stalking a girl, said his father.
Md Shobuj, 18, was caught red-handed on Thursday by the schoolgirl's guardians and later UP member Ashraf Sardar released him after slapping him across the face, said police.
Meanwhile, the girl's father lodged a complaint with Arongghata police.
Azizul found his son hanging from the ceiling fan of his room and informed police who sent the body to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Youth jailed for stalking in Chuadanga

A mobile court in Chuadanga sentenced a youth to six month's rigorous imprisonment for stalking college girls in Jibonnagar bus stand area in the district headquarters on Thursday.
Biplab Halder, 20, a resident of sadar upazila, along with his associates was stalking college girls when locals informed police who later produced him to the court. His cohorts fled before police arrived.
Man's body recovered in capital

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man hit by bullets from the capita's Rupnagar yesterday morning.
Locals first found the body of the person clad in jeans pants and a yellow T-shirt by the road in Eastern Housing Area, said Monirul Islam, sub-inspector of Rupnagar Police Station.
The man, aged around 30, was shot in the chest, abdomen and neck, he said.
The reason behind the incident could not be ascertained immediately, the SI added.
Indigenous girl 'raped' in Bandarban

A girl from the indigenous community was allegedly raped in Ruma upazila in Bandarban Wednesday night.
The victim alleged that two men picked her up from Ruma Bus Station around 7:00am on Wednesday promising to give her a ride to Ruma High School where she was headed.
Instead the men took her to Ruma Sangu bridge area and raped her, she claimed, adding that they left her there around 10:30pm. The eighth grader has been admitted to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.
Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Ruma Police Station, said they arrested a man in this connection.
Man found dead in Barisal hotel room

A man was found dead in a hotel room in Barisal city yesterday where he had been staying since January 17.
Informed by Hotel Melody's staff, police recovered the body of Nizamul Islam, 54, of Barisal Sadar upazila, after opening the room which was locked from inside.
Police said there were no signs that violence was involved in the death and sent the body to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
'JMB man' held in Mymensingh

Kotwali police arrested an alleged Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activist with three crude bombs wrapped in a white paper in Shikarikanda Belltoli Bridge area in Mymensingh Sadar upazila yesterday.
During primary interrogation, Emdadul Haque Ujjal, 30, of Muktagacha upazila, confessed his involvement with JMB, said police. A Mymensingh court sent Ujjal to jail. A case was lodged.
