New political alliance launched
A new political alliance comprising 10 political parties has launched its journey today.
Five of the 10 parties of the new alliance named 'National Democratic Front' are factions of five constituents of the BNP-led 20-party political alliance, reports our correspondent.
The five parties are: National Peoples Party led by Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu; National Democratic Party led by Alamgir Majumdar; National Awami Party (NAP-Bhashani) led by Anwarul Haq; Bangladesh Labour Party led by Sekandar Ali Moni, and Bangladesh Islamic Party led by MA Rashid Pradhan.
In a press conference at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka, Shawkat Hossain Nilu announced the formation of the alliance.
He also introduced himself as the alliance’s chief while Alamgir Majumdar was introduced as its secretary general.
Talking about new alliance’s objectives Nilu said, they have formed the alliance to ensure interests of the people and the country and to run the government of the country.
In a written statement, Nilu outlined a nine-point demand. The demands include scraping the 10th parliament, holding of a new inclusive general election, and declaring February 25 as national mourning day to mark assassination of 57 army official inside the then BDR headquarters.
Nilu denied the allegation that there was role of the government’s intelligence agencies behind formation of the alliance.
Of the 10 political parties, only parties have registration with the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the BNP-led 20-party alliance has remained unchanged. No party has left the alliance.
Fakhrul was speaking at a programme organised to mark the 23th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Bastuhara Dal at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
There so many such political leaders in the country, who cannot resist their greed. They leave their party Halua Roti, he said.
Such political leaders will not be able to sustain. They will be washed away in the wave of movement of the people in the country.
