Nishan Robi Das, a seventh grader of Wari High School, struggling to fill up his form for the Covid-19 shots, being administered to schoolchildren aged 12-17, in front of the capital’s Viqarunnisa Noon School and College yesterday. As many young students are facing difficulties filling up the forms on their own, some parents have been suggesting that teachers help out the children. Photo: Anisur Rahman
A squirrel climbing down a tree in search of nuts to feast on. This small mammal is now rarely found in the capital. Bangladesh is home to nine different species of squirrels and at least half of them face the threat of extinction in the country. Photo: Prabir Das
Turnips being stacked for sale at wholesale in Karwan Bazar on Wednesday night. Priced at Tk 30 per kilogramme, they were cultivated in Manikganj, one of the areas surrounding Dhaka which accounts for a majority of the supply of vegetables for the capital. Photo: Anisur Rahman
These three heritage steamers push through the water with large wheels, just like in the old times. Owned by BIWTA, they’re docked at the Buriganga, near Babubazar Bridge. However, they get to run only once or twice a year. As hyacinths grow all around them, they’re at risk of catching rust and decaying over time. This photo was taken yesterday. Photo: Anisur Rahman
Conch shells lying around Cox’s Bazar beach may not be that big in size, but a lot of them together is enough to run Asma Begum’s family. Every day, she earns around Tk 500-600 by selling them to artisans who make necklaces and hair clips out of them. This photo was taken yesterday. Photo: Rajib Raihan
