Tamim, a day labourer, on a flimsy rope ladder tries to gain a balance while working on a high-rise in the capital's Bangla Motor area yesterday afternoon. To support his family consisting of his mother and a sister, he risks his life on a daily basis, for a mere Tk 500. Many like him often die from losing balance, as there are no security measures taken by the authorities concerned regarding workers' safety and business owners always look to cut corners to maximise their profit at the expense of the lives of cheap labourers.
