Man held at Dhaka airport with 6kgs of gold

Customs officials this morning detained a man with six kilogrammes of gold at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The detainee was identified as Tanzilur Rahman, 30, hailing from Narayanganj, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Tanzilur was returning home on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ flight from Rome in Italy, said Sanjida Anushua, assistant commissioner of customs.

He landed around 10:15am and was crossing the green channel while six gold bars, weighing a kilogramme each, were found in a fruits’ bag carried by him, the official added.

The approximate price of the gold is around Tk 3 crore, she said.

A case was filed with the Airport Police Station in this connection.
