Locals, relatives wreck hospital

Three staff suspended

Sylhet residents and relatives of a patient who died because of alleged wrong treatment vandalised a private hospital in the city on Tuesday night.
The dead was Kabir Ali of Palai village in Sunamganj.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities formed a three-member committee to investigate the allegation. The authorities also suspended three people including a doctor in this regard.
Kabir's family members claimed that they admitted Kabir to Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital in Pathantola area on Tuesday afternoon as he was bleeding excessively from the nose and mouth.
Hena Begum, Kabir's sister, alleged, “In the beginning, Kabir's condition was improving after he was administered some medicine. Later, his condition deteriorated rapidly after a nurse injected him with something.”

Kabir was rushed to ICU and he died there, said the sister, adding that at first, the doctors kept the fact that Kabir died hidden.
“They let us know at 8:00pm,” she said.
As the news spread, around a hundred people vandalised the hospital building. On information, Jalalabad police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. A GD was filed in this regard.                 
Meanwhile, three people including Dr Golam Mostafa and the nurse who administered the injection have been suspended.
“We have also formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident,” said Maj Gen (retd) Nazmul Islam, principal of the college, yesterday.
The committee has been asked to submit a report within three days.
