Divine Beauty Lounge & Makeup Maestro Bapon Rahman
It happened – I fell in love. And the objects of my affection, utterly charming, are the works of make-up maestro Bapon Rahman. Inspired by the American make-up visionary Billy Brasfield and Bollywood make-up guru Micky Contractor, Rahman has been practicing make-up artistry for near twenty-five years in Bangladesh. "Playing with colours has been a hobby since childhood. This, gradually lured me towards the world of make-up," claimed the artist. At some point during of our tête-à-tête, Bapon Rahman showed pictures of his make-up artistry, all done to the point of perfection.
"We are usually accustomed to seeing the typical and traditional look on a bride, but I have tried to create something different," said Bapon Rahman. "Brides do not always have to look the same. Appearances can be experimented with, to create a grand finish – similar to a world class painting. My clients love the transformations I craft, inspiring me to compile my work into a catalogue, thus giving birth to the concept of 'Colour and Click', added Rahman. And true it was – a pictorial compilation, there were brides and models donning the vintage, the natural, the retro, the extravagant and every other look done impeccably to the finest detail, so much so that it makes our hearts miss a beat.
Deeper into our discussion, I was introduced to Sangeeta Khan, the business partner of Bapon Rahman. Jointly they run the exclusive beauty salon, Divine beauty Lounge. "Sangeeta apa and I go back a long time, as friends. As business partners we run the salon. While I look after the make-up section, Sangeeta Khan looks after all the other nitty-gritty."
Talking more about the salon he said, "Our salon provides a whole range of services from the most relaxing spa services to a fabulous haircut. We do it to the point of perfection."
Sangeeta Khan reiterated, "The products that we use at Divine Beauty Lounge are all imported from MrilQ, India. They are 100 percent Natural Wellness products, preparing and protecting the skin and hair from the hazards of the environmental pollutants and the chemicals of cosmetics.
"Divine Beauty Salon has been created with the motive of providing the best of salon services to clients' at the most reasonable price. We want our clients to come visit our pace and relax in a comfortable setting, while availing the best of salon services."
On 17 and 18 December, 2016 Bapon Rahman and Sangeeta Khan jointly hosted an exhibition termed 'Colour and Click' at EDGE – the Gallery, Gulshan 2, showcasing the works of the makeup maestro, Bapon Rahman. The images were composed by renowned photographer Anwar Hosain Enam.
The grand opening was wonderful as the entire place resonated with the amazing glitterati, each impressed by the high standard set by the make-up artist, the photographer and those responsible for putting together the wonderful show.
One of the most renowned models of the country, Peya – who has recently been featured in Vogue India – said, "It is a delightful experience to see amazing new steps taken in the fashion industry, which is developing every day. I am glad that Bapon bhai has taken this initiative."
'Colour and Click' showcased an unconventional celebration of glamour and beauty by combining the art of make-up with dextrous hands of the photographer. Certainly this will etch a mark in the fashion industry.
