Stop sending women workers to Saudi Arabia
The Daily Star reported yesterday that a number of Bangladeshi female workers returned home from Saudi Arabia after having been physically and sexually abused. It is unfathomable to me why the government had sent them to the country in the first place. Countries like the Philippines and Indonesia stopped sending women workers to Saudi Arabia after widespread reports of abuse. Why can't we do the same? It's not just about the dignity of our nation, it's also about the safety and security of our citizens.
I think Bangladesh should not only stop sending female workers in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries where their safety is not guaranteed, but the government should also seek compensation from the Saudi government for the pain and suffering endured by our workers.
