Journalist Humayun Kabir murder: 5 sentenced to life in explosives case in Khulna
A court in Khulna today sentenced five people to life term imprisonment in an explosives case filed in connection with the murder of local journalist Humayun Kabir Balu in 2004.
Judge Saifuzzaman of Khulna Public Security Disruption Crime Suppression Tribunal handed down the verdict.
The convicts were also fined Tk 10,000 each.
The convicts are Syed Iqbal Hossain alias Swadhin, Nazul alias Ripon alias Nazrul Islam alias Khora Nazrul, Masum alias Jahangir, Rimon alias Asaduzzaman and Zahid Hossain alias Sabuj alias Zahidur Rahman.
One of the accused, Jahangir is on the run.
On June 27, 2004, Humayun Kabir was killed in an attack in front of the main gate of the local daily Janmabhumi in Khulna.
On the following day, Sub-inspector of Khulna Sadar Police Station Maruf Ahmed filed two cases over murder and explosives.
In the verdict of the murder case, seven accused were acquitted on February 13, 2008.
