Dhaka Bar Association elections ends
The two-day annual election of Dhaka Bar Association for the year 2021-2022 ended today.
A total of 8,700 lawyers out of 17,756 cast their votes in the election that ended at 5:00pm.
The voting began at 9:00am and ended at 5:00pm each day with an hour's break. A total of 3,982 lawyers cast their votes yesterday on the first day while 4,718 lawyers cast their votes today.
The vote counting will start at 10:00am tomorrow, Advocate Nazrul Islam Shamim, one of the election commissioners, told The Daily Star today.
A committee led by Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Abdullah Abu conducted the election, Shamim said.
The panels of ruling Awami League-backed Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkya Panel have mainly contested the election, sources said.
Advocate Md Abdul Beten and Advocate Md Mosleh Uddin Jashim were nominated for the post of president from Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad and Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkya Panel respectively.
Advocate Firojur Rahman Montu and Advocate Khandaker Md Hozrat Ali were contesting for the post of general secretary from Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad and Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkya Panel respectively.
