Lalmonirhat mob killing: Man who spread rumour against Jewel arrested in Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested Abul Hossain alias Hossain Ali, who allegedly spread the rumour against Shahidunnabi Jewel of demeaning the Holy Quran.

On information, a team of detectives of Mirpur division arrested Hossain (44) from Kuril Bishwa Road area early today, Deputy Commissioner of DMP Media Centre Walid Hossain told The Daily Star.

He has been handed over to Lalmonirhat district police, he said.

Based on investigation by detectives, investigation officer of the cases, district administration and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), it was primarily found that Hossain first brought the allegation of demeaning the Holy Quran against Jewel. Later, the rumour spread across the village.         

Hossain could not be found in the village after Jewel was beaten to death at Burimari in Lalmonirhat on October 29.

His mobile phone was also found switched off.
