Jamaat activist jailed for vandalism
A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced a local activist of Jamaat-e-Islalmi to two years' imprisonment for vandalising vehicles during the nationwide blockades, enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
The convict was identified as Ibrahim Gazi, 25, an activist of Debhata upazila unit Jamaat and son of Shamsuddin Gazi of Parulia village of the upazila.
Satkhira additional police superintendent Joydeb Chowdhury said, members of joint forces in an overnight drive arrested Ibrahim along with another Jamaat activist named Abul Kalam Gazi on Tuesday midnight on charge of vandalising vehicles.
Wednesday noon, when Ibrahim was produced before the mobile court of Satkhira court's executive magistrate Rezaul Karim, the judge handed down two years' imprisonment to the Jamaat activist.
On the other hand, Ibrahim confessed to his involvement in the killing of Debhata upazila unit Awami League organising secretary Abu Raihan in a statement before the court, said OC of Debhata PS Tareq Biswas.
